Working with a construction company that offers in-house design services is incredibly beneficial for your construction project.

  • Avoiding errors and delays

  • Better project flow

  • Integrating Value Engineering

  • Saving on the cost of construction

To help you gain a better understanding of in-house design services and their benefits, we sat down with Stretch’s Architectural Technologist, Richard, to get his perspective on what Stretch has to offer.

Richard has developed an in-depth understanding of structural engineering practices through a long career in architectural design. He has over 20 years of experience offering architectural services, including creating preliminary architectural designs, 3D rendering presentations, bylaw and building code analysis, and architectural and structural detailing. Richard has also directed numerous facilities planning studies, managed the design of all aspects of a wide range of building types, and worked closely with client groups to ensure all details of their requirements are met. In addition, he has conducted numerous building condition studies and co-managed complex projects.

Through his experience, he has established a solid reputation for being client-service driven with a keen sense of design that meets clients’ needs within their budget.

What are some of the benefits of in-house design services?

More Collaboration

Traditional construction has a formal hand-off and bidding process. Although everyone involved in the project is professional and will do their best to meet your expectations, the design and construction companies work alone, which can add to the inefficiencies.
On the other end of the spectrum, in-house design services combine designers and contractors into one team, working together to meet your needs. Because you only have a single point of contact, you eliminate having to coordinate with multiple contractors and consultants. Additionally, the in-house designer can better understand your project vision.

Time Savings

Whenever you are taking on a large-scale construction building project, it is crucial for it to be completed on time so it limits the impact on your organization’s productivity. By working with a single point of contact who coordinates all work timelines, you can streamline all communications, reducing the time commitments and simplifying the entire project planning and implementation process.

Cost Savings

Another significant benefit of in-house design services is cost savings. You can greatly reduce cost as multiple steps of the project are tackled simultaneously. These savings are also realized because change orders are limited, materials can be ordered early, and design changes can be reduced.

Accountability

Because the entire project falls within a single contract, the design-builder carries full responsibility for the work, including cost, timelines, and quality.

Expertise

Not only can you profit from the experience of a construction company, but you also benefit from their building designers’ expertise. By working with an experienced team, you can mitigate risks and potential errors throughout the project.
